← Solving Grocery’s Most Confusing Aisle
GROCERY
If you manage a brand in the grocery space, you already know the brutal reality of the vitamins aisle. It’s cluttered, overwhelming and notoriously hard to navigate. Facing a sea of science-heavy labels and confusing advice, shoppers quickly develop decision fatigue, and a confused shopper usually walks away empty-handed.
When Bayer launched Berocca Hydrate, they knew a stellar product wasn’t enough. They needed to solve the category’s biggest pain point right at the shelf edge.
Landing in 130 Sainsbury’s stores, a major cross-functional effort between Bayer, Sainsbury’s and The Valley Group set out to turn one of grocery’s most complex spaces into a seamless, intuitive shopping experience.
The brief was clear: create a fixture with genuine impact that cuts through visual noise and guides shoppers effortlessly to the right product. To pull it off, the team relied heavily on shopper psychology and smart merchandising:
• High-Impact Visual Anchor: 3D disruptive branding draws the eye from down the aisle, establishing instant standout visibility in a crowded environment.
• Simplified Decision Journeys: By replacing confusing jargon with clear, benefit-led signposting, the design helps shoppers quickly identify why they need a product, whether it’s energy, immunity, or hydration.
• Confidence at the Point of Purchase: Streamlining the visual hierarchy removes friction, giving shoppers the quick reassurance they need to make a decision and drop the product into their trolley.
Physical retail is about guiding consumer behavior, by offering the best shopper experience. Early results from the Sainsbury’s rollout are already looking strong, proving that removing shopper anxiety directly fuels category growth.
In a high-speed grocery environment, the brands that win are the ones that make buying them effortless.
